MEET THE HOST

TARIKURA KAPEA
Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, Te Ati Awa, Ngāti Apa

Āio was born from a personal journey - a search for healing, reconnection, and the remembering of ancient ways.

Kia ora babe,

After decades of navigating painful periods and feeling let down by mainstream systems, I found myself drawn to holistic healing and indigenous wisdom.

Raised in kōhanga reo and kura, I was privileged to be immersed in a Māori worldview - where nature is sacred, ceremony is medicine, and storytelling is a pathway to transformation.

I feel a deep responsibility to lend my voice to this movement of reclaiming ancestral ways.

Forever  a humble student, I created Āio to keep learning - about all the ways we can tend to ourselves, our communities, and the earth.

Together we explore the wisdom of the body, the intelligence of nature, the richness of ancestral knowledge and the practices that reconnect us with ourselves, our communities and the living world around us.

Rooted in te ao Māori while welcoming many ways of knowing, Āio exists to inspire curiosity, deepen understanding and remind us that healing has always been relational.

“I was seeking mentors and educators around cultural disconnection, women's health and I found solace in a holistic view to my health and wellbeing.

I was having the most incredible conversations with healers behind closed doors, and I knew the world needed to hear their voices.” - Host, Tarikura.

“E kore au e ngaro, he kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea.”
I will never be lost, for I am a seed sown in Rangiātea.

This whakataukī serves as a powerful reminder of your whakapapa (genealogy), inner resilience, and eternal connection to your ancestors.
